Phipps, Miss. Miss Phipps was created by Phyllis Bentley and appeared in twenty-four stories in Woman’s Home Companion and Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine from 1937 to 1974, beginning with “The Missing Character” (Woman’s Home Companion, July 1937).

Miss Phipps is a Spinster Detective. An older woman who writes detective novels, Miss Phipps has the wit, knowledge, and sense of humor to solve the crimes that are too difficult for her friend Detective Sergeant Tarrant.
