Pertwee, Hiram (II). Hiram Pertwee (II) was created by Charles W. Tyler (Big-Nose Charlie, Blue Jean Billy, Dewlap & Wattles, Hiram Pertwee (I), Baldy Sours) and appeared in four stories in Western Story Magazine in 1921, beginning with “Hiram Rides ‘Parson Pickax’” (Western Story Magazine, Mar. 5, 1921).
Hiram Pertwee (II) is a friend of Baldy Sours who wanders around the American Southwest during the modern era doing odd jobs. He’s from Maine and has raised potatoes there, but he’s also flown guns into Honduras and run planes and guns in Mexico, in addition to more traditional cowboy-style pursuits in the United States.
