Pertwee, Hiram (I). Hiram Pertwee (I) was created by Charles W. Tyler (Big-Nose Charlie, Blue Jean Billy, Dewlap & Wattles, Hiram Pertwee (II), Baldy Sours) and appeared in nine stories in Railroad Man’s Magazine from 1914 to 1921.

Hiram Pertwee (I) is an Unlucky Inventor. He is brilliant, but all of his innovations and creations, though designed to make trains more comfortable, safer, and faster, never quite pan out. He is from Aroostook County, Maine, and is given to expressions like “By the’ mummified images of th’ four fathers o’misery!”
