Pepper, Mr. Mr. Pepper was created by Basil Thomson (Peter Graham, Inspector Richardson) and appeared in fifteen stories which were collected in Mr. Pepper, Investigator (1925).

Mr. Pepper is an American fan of mystery stories who believes that he can do a better job than the professionals. He even goes so far as to scoff at the work of Scotland Yard. Pepper moves to London and poses as “the great American private detective,” the son of a German baron, and a former reporter. In this guise he solves crimes, following a series of aphorisms which go against the methods of Scotland Yard, but which are undeniably effective.
