Pelham, Pel. Pel Pelham was created by A.E. Martin and appeared in Common People (1944) and The Bridal Bed Murders (1954).
Pel Pelham is an Australian “spruiker,” or sideshow barker, who works at a traveling circus. He comes from a desperately poor background, and poverty has left its mark on him. Although he is usually well dressed, he is always tense and his eyes are forever nervous and darting. He is a hard man without much sympathy, but he is loyal to his friends. When murder occurs, he solves it with the help of circus sideshow performers, including dwarfs and Chinese giants.
