Panhandle Pete. Panhandle Pete was created by Frank Richardson Pierce (Frying Pan Austin, CCCContact & Mile High, Greaseball DonovanHardrock, No-Shirt McGee, Flapjack Meehan, Dad Simms, Tip, Rusty Wade) and appeared in fourteen stories in Short Stories from 1935 to 1947, beginning with “Panhandle Pete” (Short Stories, Feb. 10, 1935).

Panhandle Pete is a mischievous, lighthearted reindeer on Mount Rainier. “The only thing you can expect him is the unexpected. He’ll come up to you with love light in his beautiful eyes, then butt you into the next county. Then he’ll prance away laughing at you.”
