Packer, Penny. Penny Packer was created by Richard B. Sale (Cobra (I), Daffy Dill, Candid Jones, Captain McGrail, Calamity Quade, Daniel Webster) and appeared in four stories in Popular Detective, Thrilling Mystery and Star Detective Magazine from 1936 to 1938, beginning with “Murder to Order” (Popular Detective, Feb. 1936). Sale created Penny Packer from rejected Daffy Dill stories.
Penny Packer is a “newshound sleuth” who covers the crime beat for the New York Clarion. He dates the paper’s receptionist, Connie Cole, and is friends with homicide policeman Jim Scott.
