Noice, Harold. Harold Noice (1895-1984) was an explorer who led an expedition into Columbia in search of gold and was a part of the once-famous Wrangel Island Relief Expedition. He also led an expedition to the Amazon which he described in Back of Beyond (1939). The Amazon expedition provided the basis for the 1938 Celebrity Pulp radio serial Black Flame of the Amazon.

The fictional Harold Noise is described as an “adventurer, explorer, and scientist in the darkest jungles of South America,” and the individual episodes describe his adventures there, along with his assistant Pedro, Noice’s friends Jim and Jean Brady, and the friendly native Keyto.
