Murphy, Patrolman. Patrolman Murphy was created by "Joel Reeve," the pseudonym of William R. Cox (Duke BagleyThe Bat (IV), Captain Satan, Tom Kincaid, Malachi Manatee, Phil Towne, Dan Trout, John Wade) and appeared in a number of stories in The Blue Book Magazine from 1945 to 1952, beginning with “A Shiv in the Gizzard” (The Blue Book Magazine, Jan. 1945).

Patrolman Murphy is a neighborhood beat cop in a borough of New York. The locals like him, for he grew up with them: “He is a stubborn mick, but he is pretty good for a cop, at that. He is skinny and tough, and stronger than a bull, and never had a nickname. Just ‘Murphy.’”
