Muckle John. Muckle John was created Frederick Watson and appeared in “The Master of Adventure” (The Captain, Dec. 1915-Mar 1916).

In the Scottish highlands, in the years before “the rebellion of ’45 put an end forever to the might of the claymore,” a man named Muckle John arrives in a small cottage. He is dour, dark and powerful, clean shaven, wearing foreign clothes, and carrying Italian pistols and a rapier, and he hires himself out to whoever needs him. In this case, it is a band of clan chiefs whose signatures, on a paper favoring a certain young man for king, have been stolen. Muckle John is hired to retrieve the paper, and then for certain other tasks, and proves himself capable.
