Moran, Jigger. Jigger Moran was created by John Roeburt and appeared in Jigger Moran (1944), There are Dead Men in Manhattan (1946), and Corpse on the Town (1950).

Jigger Moran is a taxi driver in Manhattan. He is part heel, part hero, a hard man in a hard city, but a melancholy man with a soft spot for his girl Irene. He knows his city and respects it, and is familiar to and with the police of the city, both crooked and straight. He’s a “polyglot Irishman” who has a J.D. and a Ph.D., but was once put on trial for criminal extortion in Chicago. The charges were dismissed, but after that he couldn’t get any sort of job in Chicago, so he had to move to New York and drive a cab to make a living.
