Middleton, Mr. Mr. Middleton was created by Wardon Allan Curtis and appeared in fifteen short stories which were collected in The Strange Adventures of Mr. Middleton (1903).
Mr. Middleton is a poor young man in Chicago who, quite by accident, encounters Emir Achmed Ben Daoud, an Arabian prince who came to Chicago to find a story-teller who would in turn help the Prince free his brother, who is imprisoned by the evil leader of their country. Middleton tells the Emir a story which appeals to him, and the two become friends. The Emir gives Middleton several rich gifts and tells him a variety of stories, some supposedly from his own life and many of which verge on the fantastic.
