Messina, Dr. Dr. Messina was created by Alec G. Pearson (El Caballero, Captain Montana, Stanley Dare, Doctor Duval, Frank Ferret, Royston Gower, Dr. Nevada) and appeared in a number of stories in The Boys’ Friend and Jester from at least 1905 to 1917, possibly beginning with “The Great Syrian Emerald” (The Boys’ Friend, June 3, 1905).
Dr. Messina is a Great Detective modeled on Nelson Lee. Despite his role as an instructor of British youths, however, Messina still finds the time to roam the world, fighting evil.
