Meredith, Inspector. Inspector Meredith was created by “John Bude,” the pseudonym of Ernest Elmore, and appeared in twenty-five novels from 1935 to 1957, beginning with The Lake District Murder.

Inspector (later Superintendent) Meredith works for the English police, both Scotland Yard and other police departments, in a variety of rural and urban locations across Great Britain. He is a cautious, careful investigator and is Watsoned by Aldous Barnet, a writer of mysteries.
