Mercer, Penny and Vincent. Penny and Vincent Mercer were created by “Henrietta Clandon,” the pseudonym of John George Vahey (Inspector Brews, Donald Cairn, Inspector Chace), and appeared in four novels from 1935 to 1938, beginning with Rope by Arrangement.

The Mercers are authors, and occasionally, while researching a book or simply through coincidence, they encounter crime and espionage. When this happens, they solve the crime and uncover the spies.
