Mellott, Kyle. Kyle Mellott was created by Frederic W. Bales and appeared in a number of stories in Fighting Western, beginning with “The Father Bear’s Cub” (Fighting Western, Dec. 1945).
In Custer-Town, it is cattlemen versus tradesmen and townsmen, with the ranchers swinging the heaviest club. Into this mess comes Kyle Mellott, the son of Square John Mellott, packing his father’s favorite gun. Kyle is his father’s “favorite trouble-shooter,” and trouble has happened to one of the Mellotts’ friends, so Kyle has come to resolve it. Kyle has the “same black hair, same bent nose like a fighting hawk’s and the same eyes which can be green like a cat’s or blue like a woman’s whin [sic] she’s in love.”
