McTavish, Swete. Swete McTavish was created by Collin Brooks (Raeburn Steel) and appeared in O Sweet McTavish (1930), Found Dead (1930), and Three Yards of Cord (1931).

Oswald Swete McTavish is an older English gentleman of leisure, a retired Oxbridge don who describes himself as a “comic tragedian,” someone who was fired from editing a children’s magazine for “flippancy” and dismissed from writing for The Catholic Dawn for his paradoxes. He is voluble, learned, avuncular, genial, verging on witty, looming, looks like Mr. Punch, and solves crimes for a hobby.
