McKim, Battle. Battle McKim was created by Edward Parrish Ware (Jack Calhoun, Buck Harris, Tug Norton) and appeared in thirteen stories in Detective Fiction Weekly from 1934 to 1937, beginning with “Clue of the Broken Chimney” (Detective Fiction Weekly, Oct. 27, 1934).
In Zinc City, in the Ozarks, Brutus “Battle” McKim is the ace investigator of Sheriff Calloway. McKim “stood five feet and five inches in his low-heeled shoes, and weighed under one hundred and thirty pounds. His age was somewhat under forty, and his nature as mild as milk. But this small, mild-mannered man had, on more than one occasions, proved his right to the nickname which had been bestowed on him originally in fun.”
