McGuire, Jack. Jack McGuire was created by "J.J. des Ormeaux," the pseudonym of Forrest Rosaire, and appeared in four stories in Black Mask from 1930 to 1932, beginning with “Murderer’s Night” (Black Mask, Apr. 1930).
Jack McGuire is a Bellem. He is an investigator for the U.S. government, and although he's tough, cynical, and wisecracking he has more of a sense of humor than most pulp private detectives. Likewise, the stories and McGuire's narrative have a leavening of wit to accompany the violence.
