Maynard, Garrett. Garrett Maynard was created by Howard Swiggett and appeared in The Corpse in the Derby Hat (1937) and Most Secret, Most Immediate (1944).

During World War Two Garrett Maynard is the “head of the Military Intelligence in North America for the Free Nations,” a role which wearies him, as he has to deal with enemy espionage on a global scale. Maynard is “a mixture of warmth and detachment and a grim efficiency,” and “a man of easy manners, well-cut clothes, with the stamp of worldly things on all about him, and...a certain contemptuous superiority.”
