Masters, Shorty. Shorty Masters was created by Allan R. Bosworth (Blackstone Bangs, Roy Bean) and appeared in 134 stories in Wild West Weekly from 1932 to 1941, beginning with “Shorty Masters, M.D.” (Wild West Weekly, Feb. 27, 1932).
Shorty Masters is a young mule-driver who finds adventure in the western frontier of the United States in the years after the Civil War. He is sidekicked by Willie Wetherbee, a.k.a. “the Sonora Kid,” a “tall, dark-faced waddy.” Masters is notable for his devotion to his mules.
