Mappin, Amos Lee. Amos Lee Mappin was created by Hulbert Footner (Madame Storey) and appeared in two stories in Street & Smith’s Detective Story Magazine and ten novels from 1930 to 1945, beginning with The Mystery of the Folded Paper.
Amos Lee Mappin is a Great Detective. He is a waspish amateur detective and criminologist, and is the author of The Psychology of Murder. He sneers at murder, which he calls “the vulgarest of crimes,” but murder is usually the crime he is called upon to solve. He is assisted by the “tall, lean, leathery and correct” valet Jermyn and by a pair of blonde and brunette assistants who call him “Pop.”
