Mandrin. Louis Mandrin (1724-1755) was an outlaw who for a short time led a band of 300 men. He became a popular hero for smuggling ordinarily expensive products to poor people and for freeing popular prisoners from jail. In 1923 Mandrin was the hero of the French dime novel Mandrin, Roi des Voleurs #1-20.

The fictional Louis Mandrin is a Gentleman Bandit and is portrayed as a heroic highwayman.
