Mallett, Inspector. Inspector Mallett was created by “Cyril Hare,” the pseudonym of Alfred Alexander Clark (Francis Pettigrew), and appeared in six books from 1937 to 1958, beginning with Tenant for Death.

John Mallett is an Inspector for Scotland Yard. He is a tall, stout man with a rosy face, bland blue eyes, a mild expression, an officious, cheerful attitude, and an exceptional memory. Mallett has an outsized appetite for life and especially for food, about which he is quite knowledgeable.
