Magnum. Magnum was created by Max Rittenberg (Dr. Wycherley) and appeared in sixteen stories in Blue Book Magazine from 1913 to 1915, beginning with "The Cyanogen Affair” (Blue Book Magazine, Oct. 1913).

Magnum is a Scientific Detective. The middle-aged Magnum is the "scientific consultant to Scotland Yard." He is a redhead, still strong and agile but getting on in years. He is au courant with the latest scientific research and technology, and puts his modern lab and lab equipment to use in solving crimes. He puffs on a curved briar pipe while deep in thought. His contact with Scotland Yard is Inspector Callaghan. Magnum, for all his skill, is prey to various small failings, petty vanities, and small cruelties, and neither he nor Callaghan are particularly cool under fire. Magnum is very smart, but very human.
