Ladyland. Ladyland was created by the Indian author Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain and appeared in “Sultana’s Dream” (Indian Ladies’ Magazine, 1905; as a novel, 1908).

In the future the women of India have created a feminist utopia called “Ladyland.” At some point in their past a queen decreed that all women should have the same access to education as men, including scientific education. This has led the women of Ladyland to create various SCIENCE! instruments, including water collectors and solar-powered ray weapons. The men of Ladyland are angry at the power that the women have, and organize an army, but the technology of Ladyland is too much for the men, who are forced to surrender and retreat into purdah.
