Knollis, Gordon. Gordon Knollis was created by Francis Vivian and appeared in eleven novels from 1939 to 1956, beginning with Three Short Men.

Gordon Knollis is an Inspector and later Superintendent with Scotland Yard. Knollis, a former public school boy, is lean, intense-looking, a hard worker, and prefers logic and evidence to intuition, although the latter is increasingly useful to him, dismaying though he finds it.
