King Kolt. King Kolt was created by Paul S. Powers (Johnny Forty-Five, Kid Wolf, Freckles Malone, Sonny Tabor) and appeared in nine stories in Wild West Weekly from 1935 to 1943, beginning with “King Kolt” (Wild West Weekly, Nov. 16 1935).
King Kolt is a lawman-for-hire, accepting pay in exchange for taking sheriff’s jobs in the roughest, toughest, orneriest locations in the West, like Hell’s Pasture, Montana, and cleaning them up. He’s usually active in New Mexico, however, and his attitude and equipment (lots of silver, and he wears a serape and chaps) reflect that. His able horse is Cougar.
