King of the Cliffs. The King of the Cliffs was created by the Japanese author Kuroiwa Ruikô and appeared in “Gankutsuô” (Yorozu Chôhô, 1901-1902).
The King of the Cliffs is modeled on Alexandre Dumas’ Edmond Dantès. The King of the Cliffs is a Dantès-like figure in feudal Japan, generally following the arc of Dantès’ life in this translation/adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo.
