Kent, Brice. Brice Kent was created by Guy Elwyn Giles and appeared in 3 Died Variously (1941) and Target for Murder (1943).

Brice Kent is a two-fisted, cynical New York City private detective. Few wisecracks, though; he takes the job too seriously, and has too much contempt for most people, to bother with witticisms. He’s “tough and unmoral” (though not without ethics) and makes a point, with recalcitrant clients, of telling them that they can’t “unhire” him. Kent is financially assisted by Tommy Jamison, of the United Insurance Companies, whose yearly contract with Kent provides the basic funding for Kent’s practice. Kent is assisted by his secretary and later girlfriend, the pert, sharp, attractive Janet Kelly.
