Kain, Vanka. Ivan Osipov (?-?) was a Russian bandit, popularly known as “Vanka Kain,” who was active in the 1630s and became a folk hero after his death. In 1910 he was the protagonist of a serial in a Moscow newspaper.

In the serial he is a police detective who is imprisoned and then goes mad and bad, finally joining a band of brigands along the Volga.
