Impey, Alfred. Alfred Impey was created by Horace Annesley Vachell (Joe Quinney) and appeared in fourteen stories in The Strand in 1927 and 1928, beginning with “My Double” (The Strand, Sept. 1927); the stories were collected in The Experiences of a Bond Street Jeweller (1932).

Alfred Impey is a retired Scotland Yard detective who has become one of the best private detectives in the U.K. He is disappointing-looking, but is imperturbable, clever and resourceful, and a good actor when he needs to be. Many of his cases are consultations for the Rappington jewel firm and are gem-related.
