Iluko. Iluko was created by J. Hampton Bishop and appeared in “The Shadow of Race” (The Thrill Book, Mar. 1-Apr 1, 1919).
Iluko is a Femme Fatale modeled on Ayesha. Iluko is the “Goddess of Fire” and the ruler of a hidden land somewhere in Africa. Iluko, who is descended from an unidentified Lost Race, is worshiped by a group of black slaves and by unnaturally intelligent gorillas. Into Iluko’s land come two Virginians, Burton McLaughlin and Duncan Whiting, in search of McLaughlin’s father, who disappeared in the area years ago. Iluko is bloodthirsty but beautiful and takes a shine to McLaughlin, but also wants to sacrifice Whiting. McLaughlin won’t stand for this, and with Whiting flees from Iluko.
