Ignatiev, Nikolai. Nikolai Pavlovich Ignatiev (1832-1908) was a Russian diplomat who was for many years active in Central Asia as a participant in the Great Game. In 1925 Captain Frank Shaw (The Duck, Launcester, League of the Watching Eye, Master Diver, Phyllis Teacher) put Ignatiev in the serial “The Red Deluge” (Chums, Jan. 18-May 10, 1925).

In “The Red Deluge” Ignatiev teams up with a Yellow Peril Chinese mandarin to have Russia and China wage war on Great Britain. Ultimately Ignatiev, the mandarin, Russia and China are defeated by the British, who use an aircraft mounted with a death ray to destroy the “Celestials and the Slavs.”
