Idaho. Idaho was created by Hugh Grinstead and appeared in thirty-seven stories in The Western Story Magazine from 1929 to 1937, beginning with “Idaho, Go Slow” (Western Story Magazine, Nov. 9, 1929).
“Idaho” Freeman is a prospector in the Colorado Mountains, eternally in search of the big strike which will allow him to retire. He never quite seems to find it, however, no matter how many little strikes he gets, and so he is forever searching and panning, accompanied by his long-time partner, Mack Barnes, with whom Idaho has a quarrelling, old-married-couple relationship.
