Hunt, Lucius. Lucius Hunt was created by James Wellard and appeared in Snake in the Grass (1942) and Moment in Time (1947).
Lucius Hunt is a professor of sociology at a college in South Dakota who has for fifteen years associated with underworld in order to do research in criminology and white collar crime. He uses his criminal associates to gather data and get information–not to solve crime, but to do research. However, when murders take place in his presence, or in hotels he is staying in, he uses what his associates can tell him, and his own powers of observation, to solve the crimes. Hunt is a fat man with a livid scar down one side of his face, and is usually calm and understated.
