Hooley, Ambrose. Ambrose Hooley was created by Joe Archibald (Dizzy Duo, Elmer and Pokey, Alvin Hinkey, Kid Tarzan, Willie Klump, Windy Knight, Phineas Pinkham, Hattie Pringle, Walrus & Wishbone, Jonathan Wise) and appeared in thirty-seven stories in a variety of pulps from 1937 to 1943, beginning with “Doubling in Brass Hats” (Sky Fighters, Jan. 1937).

Ambrose Hooley is a transport pilot for the U.S. Army during World War One, ferrying food and livestock to and from the front. Hooley is a “tough little tomato afraid of nothing, even a zombie, as he would sit in a graveyard until midnight until one showed, and then ask her did she have a friend.” He finds adventure and shoots down enemy pilots in these “humorous” stories. His best friend is Muley Spink.
