Holmes, Raffles. Raffles Holmes was created by John Kendrick Bangs (Shylock Homes, the Idiot, Jimmieboy, Mrs. A.J. van Raffles) and appeared in ten stories in Harper’s Weekly in 1904, beginning with “Introducing Mr. Raffles Holmes” (Harper’s Weekly, 1904); the stories were collected in R. Holmes & Co. (1906).
Raffles Holmes is a Lupin. He is the son of Sherlock Holmes and the grandson of A. J. Raffles, and combines the intellect and morals of his father with the adventurous spirit and willingness to break the law of his grandfather. Raffles Holmes assisted (and his stories narrated by) the writer Jenkins.
