Holmes, Stanley. Stanley Holmes was created by the Russian author Valentin Katayev (Professor Grant) and appeared in Povelitel' zheleza (1925).
Stanley Holmes is a Great Detective. He is the son of Mycroft Holmes and the nephew of Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, Stanley Holmes isn't quite as skilled a detective as his father or uncle. In fact, he's rather inept. A Moscow scientist creates a machine which can magnetize all metal objects, thus rendering all armaments useless. But the scientist goes to Tibet and orders all governments to cease hostilities. Stanley is dispatched to track down Ramashandra, the leader of a revolutionary movement in India which is poised to take advantage of the Russian scientist's actions. However, Stanley is unsuccessful in locating Ramashandra, forcing Sherlock himself to do so.
