Hollister, Hinges. Hinges Hollister was created by “Phil Squires,” the pseudonym of S. Omar Barker (Dreamy Dorkin), and appeared in eleven stories in Wild West Weekly from 1937 to 1939, beginning with “Old Stump” (Wild West Weekly, Dec. 25, 1937).

Ellworth “Hinges” Hollister is a kindly, barely literate young tenderfoot who writes stories to his mother and sweetheart back home. Sometimes the stories are genial and sweet, and sometimes they are rollicking stories about the bad guys Hinges has met and fought. He’s new to the frontier, and not particularly respected by the other hands, but he works hard, shoots straight, and fights for the right, and that earns him their respect.
