Hillier, Husky. Husky Hillier was created by F.A.M. Webster (Max Cramer, Alphabet Crisp, Lawrie Fenton, Bruce Logan, Old Ebbie, Peter Pirow) and appeared in twelve stories in The Blue Magazine in 1923 and 1924, beginning with “A Meeting” (The Blue Magazine, Feb. 1923); the stories were collected in The Odyssey of Husky Hillier (1924).
Husky Hillier is an Africa Hand. He is an Englishman who takes on international cases of adventure and crime, but his greatest amount of experience is in Africa. He is a hot-tempered, red-haired, “squat, square-shouldered man,” a demon with a pistol, great with his fists, “a man of genius and daring, who might have made his fortune in almost any calling he had cared to stick to; but who, cursed—or blessed as you will—with the most unconquerable ‘Go-fever,’ preferred to roam the roads of all the world in search of high adventure.” He is active in South Pacific, South America, and Africa.
