Hildreth, Barnabas. Barnabas Hildreth was created by Vincent Cornier (Sir Richard Thorreston Brantyngham) and appeared in fifteen stories from 1933 to 1951, beginning with “The Stone Ear” (Pearson’s Magazine, Sept. 1933).
Barnabas Hildreth is a Scientific Detective modeled on Dr. Thorndyke. Hildreth also works for British Intelligence, where he is known as the "Black Monk." Some of his stories verge on fantastic (Hildreth may be an immortal Egyptian priest) and the science fictional (one 1935 story prefigures the atomic bomb).
