Higgins, Matthew. Matthew Higgins was created by Means Davis and appeared in Hospital Murders (1934) and Murder Without Weapon (1935). Matthew Higgins is a private detective, working for the James P. Anderson Agency out of New York City, who specializes in handling murder cases involving or set in hospitals. He is assisted by Snod Smooty, an Englishman who “looks like a servant” and “is so colorless that people are always either frightened or sympathetic in his presence and spatter him with information.”
