Helmer, Jan. Jan Helmer was created by the Danish author Carlo Andersen (Jan) and Knud Meister and appeared in seventy-six novels from 1942 to 1963, beginning with En Detektiv Paa Fjorten: Drenge-Detektivroman.

Jan Helmer is the fifteen-year-old son of Dutch police detective Mogens Helmer. Like his father, Jan hates crime and criminals and does his best to stop the former and catch the latter. Jan is bright, clever, brave and adventurous. Jan is assisted by his two best friends: Erling Krag, the cynical, smart, fat boy, and Jesper, the smart-mouthed but big-hearted scofflaw.
