Greer, James. James Greer was created by Newton Gayle and appeared in five novels from 1935 to 1938 beginning with Death Follows a Formula.

James Greer is an amateur English detective. During the war he was first a front-line soldier and then a Captain in the Military Intelligence Division, where he served brilliantly against the Turks. He stayed with M.I.D. after the war, working in counter-intelligence, and then resigned, losing himself in the social whirl. But his taste for adventure never left, and when he comes across a particularly interesting crime, or a friend points him in the direction of one, he avidly applies himself to solving it.
