Green Ghost. The Green Ghost was created by Johnston McCulley (The Avenging Twins, Bat (II), Black Star, Jim Bodney, Crimson Clown, Captain Goodwin, Richard Hughes, Man in Purple, Mongoose, Peter Noggins, Peanut Pete, Spider (I), Thubway Tham, Thunderbolt (I), Terry Trimble, Whirlwind, Zorro) and appeared in seven stories in Thrilling Detective in 1934 and 1935, beginning with “The Green Ghost” (Thrilling Detective, Mar. 1934). The Green Ghost is a Costumed Avenger. Danny Blaney is an honest cop until he is framed by crooks and loses his badge. He never goes to trial, but the police no longer trust him. So he becomes the green hooded, green gloved Green Ghost. He captures and steals from the crooks who the police were unable to capture. In this fashion Blaney shows up both the cops and the criminals. As a cover story Blaney pretends to inherit some money and runs a corner cigar store.
