Gayleigh, Peter. Peter Gayleigh was created by Colin Robertson and appeared in seventeen novels from 1939 to 1969, beginning with Temple of Dawn.
Peter Gayleigh is an adventurer modeled on The Saint. Peter Gayleigh is a wandering, wealthy adventurer, vigilante, and general do-gooder. “He had dallied with the police of two continents, a quip on his lips, and mockery in his eyes, and though, nowadays, he rarely clashed with the law, he was not above burnishing the lance of adventure on the pate of officialdom.” For all that, however, he would much rather punish (and sometimes brutalize) bad men, who he finds more deserving of his attention.
