Gay, Juan. Juan Gay was created by the Spanish author Vicente Arias Archidona and appeared in a story and four novels from 1933 to 1943, beginning with Juan Gay, Policia.

Juan Gay is a portly Madrid policeman who in his later appearances is overtly modeled on Nero Wolfe. When solving mysteries he acts with verve and elan. But he also has a feline laziness and waits in his house for his superiors to call him about cases.
