Garfield, Peg Leg. Peg Leg Garfield was created by F.R. Buckley (Luigi Caradossa) and appeared in fifty-nine stories in Western Story Magazine from 1922 to 1929, beginning with “Nothing But Kindness” (Western Story Magazine, July 2, 1921).

W. “Peg Leg” Garfield is the sheriff of Three Pines County, on the western frontier. He’s 78 years old, and the owner of a general store, and, as his name indicates, the bearer of a peg leg, but for all of that he is still spry, canny, and more than capable with a firearm, and the many outlaws who try to fool or shoot him find out he’s their match in a hurry.
