Galloping Larry. Galloping Larry was created by Van Harrison (Captain Careless) and appeared in a number of stories in The 20 Story Magazine in 1934 and 1935, beginning with “Under the Moon” (The 20 Story Magazine, Dec. 1934). In England, during the Regency, Galloping Larry is a Gentleman Bandit. He is a “dashing, suave Knight of the Road,” a “elusive, rakehelly, insolent rogue” who robs stagecoaches while dressed in a black riding cloak and black mask, romances the ladies, has a variety of adventures, and generally carries on like a latter-day Dick Turpin.
